What is Low Voltage Directive?

The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU is a European Union directive aimed at ensuring that electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits meets essential health and safety requirements.

Voltage Limit:

AC Voltages: 50 to 1,000 volts.
DC Voltages: 75 to 1,500 volts.

Key Aspects

Exclusions

The LVD does not apply to:

  • Electrical equipment designed for use in explosive atmospheres (which falls under the ATEX directives).
  • Electrical equipment for use in medical applications (subject to the Medical Devices Regulation).
  • Electrical equipment specifically designed for use in certain types of installations (e.g., electrical installations in vehicles).

Application

It encompasses a broad range of electrical equipment, including household appliances, industrial machinery, and components.
